Weight loss provides renewed health, fresh outlook
Lisa Newman, 37, of Roseville gives new meaning to the phrase "New Year's Resolution." Lisa is the very picture of resolve. At more than 100 pounds overweight, she decided the weight had to come off - and she did it. Then she ran a marathon.
Lisa came to the Henry Ford Macomb Center for Weight Management in November 2007 at the suggestion of her mom, Cheri Newman, who is a former client.
"I had tried everything," Lisa said. "I came in to the orientation and I was watching the video. I was struck by the people who lost the amount of weight I needed to lose. I thought, 'this is my moment. I can do this.'"
By using the meal replacements to stay full and incorporating physical activity into her life, Lisa has lost more than 100 pounds. Her high blood pressure is now under control and she feels great.
"The program gave me the accountability and support I needed," she added.
One year after starting at the Center, she ran her first 10K race and in October 2009, she completed the Detroit Free Press Marathon. She says keeping the weight off is still a constant battle, but one she now has the tools to keep waging. And, she's already planning her next marathon.
